Sukhothai, Thailand-a Short Stay

suthokaiart1After leaving Chiang Mai and still being in a sort of quiet state of mind-we decided to spend a few days in the country before heading to the great chaos that is Bangkok.

Sukhothai is the first capitol of Thailand and is located almost halfway between Chiang Mai and Bangkok.  The city is divided into an old and new city.  We found the new city to be in a word, “crappy.”  There is nothing much to see except for a sort of decrepit downtown.  The old city on the other hand is lovely.  Admittedly, there are more tourists in the old town, but really there aren’t many tourists in the whole city.  The main draw of Sukhothai are the Khmer ruin, which are scattered throughout old town.  For $1 US a day, you can rent a bike and ride around the whole city in search of ruins, and temples among the small neighborhoods and fields.  We stayed in Sukhothai for 3 days, but could have easily spent a week.
